NASA Launches Roman Space Telescope to Map the Universe Faster Than Ever
The new US flagship astronomy observatory by NASA, named after the famous astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, was successfully launched into space via a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Kennedy Space Center on Sunday. First conceived as a converted U.S. spy satellite provided by the National Reconnaissance Office in 2012, the telescope will travel 1.6 million kilometers to Lagrange Point 2 and work on its initial five-year mission there. The telescope boasts similar capabilities of observation as Hubble but has the ability to scan the entire universe 100 times faster.
